Who are you known as?
Lumotive (we're changing our name from Holosense)
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
My name is Bill, and I am the CEO and Founder of Lumotive, an early stage, venture-backed startup in Seattle. We are working on a laser sensor called lidar, which will be used by self-driving cars to navigate. If you’ve seen pictures of the Google self-driving cars, the big bump on top is a lidar unit that acts as the 3D eyes of the car, and we are trying to make a much better, cheaper version of it. The way that we do that is with a technology called metamaterials, which allows us to steer a laser beam with no moving parts. It’s basically a semiconductor chip that reflects a laser beam, kind of like a prism. We went with the name Lumotive because we are also about controlling and moving light, and also because it’s for cars, so it works on multiple levels. We are looking for modern, clean, and high-tech brand that echoes the themes of light, innovation, and coolness because our tech is kind of exotic. We will be selling our product to auto companies and tech companies like Uber and Google. So our audience is engineers and executives in tech and other engineers that we are trying to recruit.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
We have a new logo which has a graphic element consisting of 9 dots of various colors. We'd like to develop an animated version of the 9-dot graphic which can play in a continuous loop, like an animated GIF. The design should be playful like the Slack logo that plays when Slack is starting. You can see Slack's animated GIF here: https://media.giphy.com/media/DCf1L
We're looking for an animated GIF of just the 9-dot graphic, without the Lumotive text. The dots could chase each other or swirl around, and the GIF would play in a loop. The playfulness of the Slack animated GIF is a good example. Good designs will experiment with the speed of movement, the direction of movement, variable speed, etc.
