Entertainment & The Arts
Driftwood is a theatrical adaptation of Eva de Jong-Duldig's critically acclaimed memoir, 'Driftwood' which tells the inspirational true story of the renowned Austrian/Australian sculptor Karl Duldig and his artist/inventor wife, Slawa Horowitz-Duldig. The story takes in their romantic and artistic lives in pre-war Vienna and Slawa’s ingenious invention of the foldable umbrella; and concludes with the emotional reunion in Paris in 1968, between Slawa and her sister Rella, after thirty years of separation. Driftwood is an epic true story of art and creativity, survival and perseverance, family & love across 3 continents. The work poignantly explores the loss that families encounter when they are dislocated by war, whilst illuminating a Jewish immigrant experience that is uniquely Australian. More about the Show can be found at https://driftwoodthemusical.com.au Driftwood illuminates little known aspects of Victorian & Australian history during & after the 2nd World War. From a Tatura internment camp for ‘enemy aliens’ (1940), the work is set within the historical landscape & sentiments of Australia- allowing the audience a lens to view contemporary Australian identity. This story also celebrates a trail-blazing Australian female inventor and highlights the importance of inspiring women’s creativity, entrepreneurship & resilience in a patriarchal environment. In recounting a uniquely Australian story and engaging outstanding Australian artists Driftwood affirms Australia’s inclusiveness, community spirit, & the contribution migrants have made to the culture & prosperity of the nation. The logo will be the shows branding to theatre audiences - which will need mass appeal but specific target groups are The Jewish and indigenous communities, survivors or war (Jewish story, indigenous Director) Female entrepreneurs/artists Immigrant groups where English may be second language School/music/drama groups Visual Artists and Art/History connoisseurs Older adults 55+

Red, Oranges and Yellow - Sepia tones inspired by old photographs
We are developing the title treatment for a musical called DRIFTWOOD The Musical. We are open to one main element which is the title treatment (logo), but also looking for Key artwork/ Hero images/posters which can incorporated the logo with an old photograph for another more visually exciting option. Old photographs are attached in the brief for reference. For the logo we are open to just displaying the title - DRIFTWOOD or having an option that is DRIFTWOOD The Musical. One idea would be to try and incorporate an umbrella into the title. The colour scheme could incorporate Reds, Oranges, Yellows, Sepia-like tones inspired by old photos. Directors notes: Three main thematic feels to the show that the logo or title artwork can convey: Nostalgia - projected images of historical photographs, storytelling, sepia, history Romantic, rose tinted, utopic, hopeful, optimism, Held – suitcases, trunks, confined spaces, fear, broken hearts, held back tears, emotionally suspended Constricted, restrained, drained, pain, trapped, fearful Freedom – artistic temperament, creativity, the folding umbrella, expression through art, colour, boldness, tennis, Bold, free, adventurous, passionate, exciting
