LocalPriceGuy got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Logo Design for www.LocalPrice.com

We are an internet search company that will list prices for locally provided services, e.g. limo services, home security system providers, hair salons, Lasik providers, etc. Logo should be a touch of fun, but professional enough that users will take the pricing information we present seriously. Generally, a Web 2.0 look.
What's your vision?
Tagline: Find the best prices for local services Desired Color Scheme: TBD Desired Style: Web 2.0+professional + a little fun Accepted File Formats: Vector Formats (.eps, .pdf or .ai) Try to avoid too much complexity so that it can be re-created in various formats, e.g. looks good as the header for a website , but also printed on card.  Colors: At this stage we don't have any specific requirements although we would probably prefer something that is a bit muted.    One suggestion: May consider using some combination of a dollar sign (to suggest pricing). This is only suggestion, not a requirement.    Another competitor, Yelp, has a cool logo but it is a little more informal that what we’ve looking for: www.yelp.com    Per the 99Designs guidelines, we will require a signed contract from the designer, assigning copyright to us, before issuing payment. We will also require that the designer warrants in writing the originality of the artwork. Â
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Logo design starts at €269.
Full copyright with production-ready files for digital and/or print.

And then… they selected a winner!
Mogeek is the absolute best designer that I have ever worked with. I am a very difficult and demanding client and expect only the very best. He exceeded my expectations in every way. By the time we were done, I felt guilty not paying him more. If you have the good fortune of being accepted as a client by this designer, you should run, not walk, as fast as you can toward his work!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
