Please derivate the design from the logo. - Layouts that manage to follow the golden ratio (divine proportion), the rule of thirds, and achieve a clear and intuitive design will have advantage. We know we already screwed it with the next phrase about layout size, but try to keep that in mind for the rest of it. **UPDATE** Please keep in mind that this website is NOT intended to be a shop or a corporate page. The content is much more important than the happy talk :) **/UPDATE** Layout: ------------------------------------------------ ***IMPORTANT*** The layout is based on a big column of 728 + small column of 300 + margins (this is not in golden proportion, not your fault). It is going to be more than 1024 pixels wide, but THAT IS INTENTIONAL. See 1040px.pdf attached ***THANKS!*** The header: ------------------------------------------------ - Aim a small header - the content is the most important part of the site, so we don´t want to take a lot of space from the page. Good example is youtube.com. - Basic components of the header: the logo, a menu with 2 options ([Student Materials] and [Academic Community]), a search box, a login and sign up link. The login|sign up links will become a user drop down (user name) when the user is logged-in. - The menu will unveil a mega-menu as you can see on the wireframes. We need you to design that menu as well, and the user menu too. We are using mega drop-downs. We show some numbers to show how many users we have, how many files are exchanged etc. Then, some courses. The user can type his course so we can customize that content, but in the other 2 columns we feature some content. There is a sample of questions and answers from each course and a list of students. Next is a sample of university logos to build credibility. (gray scaled) And next, a list of courses, organized by areas. And the footer. Page 2 - User Profile ------------------------------------------------ Here we have the profile, featuring the avatar, name and social networks (orkut, facebook, linkedin etc), a link to his university and his course, and his badges. Badges are collectable icons representing achievements like: "many files uploaded", "many comments" "good anwers", "welcome", "active user" etc etc. If someone clicks on "send message", a hidden div will appear to allow him to write and send a message to this user. Next is a list of files (table) and a preview area. Next: account activity - just a list of itens On the sidebar: Statistics about the user, list of friends, list of classes Page 3 - University ------------------------------------------------ A big picture of the campus, with the name and a list of other pictures at the right. (users can upload pics). Next, we have an index of this page (links to each section), and a large text talking about the university. Then sections (from the index), like: events, maps, agenda, list of links, addresses etc etc, On the sidebar we repeat some infos about the university, a map, the address, a list of students and a list of courses from that university. Page 4 - File-Download ------------------------------------------------ This page is one of the most visited pages. It features the file that the students upload. There is the title of the file, the thumbnail, a small avatar from the users that submitted (and his course and university) Then a navigational bar, with: like button (good file), facebook, tweet and +1 this file. an action button (dropdown) to add to group. then, comments button, download, creativecommons and flag. In the center, the preview of the file, usually a large amount of text and graphics, deppending on the file. Next is the comments. On the sidebar, infos and statistics about the file and a list of similar files. Page 5 - Search page ------------------------------------------------ The main area will list files. So we have the thumbnail and bellow are some icons representing the number of pages, number of comments, number of downloadas and stars, Next to that, the file name (title) and description, and the tags. On the sidebar, a mini search for users with that name, courses, links, videos and questions/answers Plus the dropdowns: dropdown_Academic_Community dropdown_Study_Materials dropdown_User

Students and teachers share materials in the site (docs, classes notes, tests), we index the content and let anybody download it (think about www.scribd.com/ just for students). The students can ask and answer other students questions, some teachers participate. Teachers and students can group themselves in the site organized by universities, classes or area of interest. There are 1.5 Million university students on the site, most of them brazilians. Average age is 18-25, a bit more males than females. They go to the site to research for the materials they need to study, share class notes etc. See logo attached and wireframes Demographics: 1.5 Million *university students* (age:18-27), most of them from Brazil. Brazilian students usually have more money than the average brazilian. Thanks!
