chrismhinds got their new wordpress theme design by running a design contest:
Help a politician be more transparent and accountable to the people

This is a website dedicated to informing people about Denver City Council's 10th District. It has information about the elected politician, the neighborhoods in the District, links to news articles, and a blog for the politician to share information important to the residents of Denver. The median age of the District 10 resident is just under 37 years old, so please factor that into your design.
I want a clean website with negative space / whitespace. I want people to feel calm while visiting the site. This is for an elected official, not political candidate, so there's no need to create a sense of urgency for the site's visitor to take action. Most of the Presidential candidate websites seem too busy and cluttered for my taste. I also have a logo already designed (visit the website, above, for the logo) that is red, blue, and yellow.
We have a sitemap with copy available at this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1M1gLKe_IRwR0iG8D1YYlBDcd5cMQDLYl?usp=sharing . The homepage is likely a hero image with logo and menu at the top and perhaps a call to action (sign up for newsletter). The additional pages are: about the elected official, about the neighborhoods in the district (9 pages, all with same design, so only 1 design needed), about the elected official's priorities (3 priorities, all on same page), a blog that allows the elected official to post information interesting to the District (that, through a plugin, will be populated to social media), and a page to get people to contact the office.
What to avoid
While red is used in the logo, we prefer it not be a dominant color in the finished design. It evokes feelings of anger, and we want visitors to feel this elected official is leading the District and providing valuable information to the visitor.
We have a large bucket of photos of the elected official meeting with constituents, posing for the camera, etc, that will be provided to designers who want them. We also have photos from around the District. While you're welcome to recommend stock images, it's possible we may have something that is specific to this elected official or District that might work better.
