Because book 1 centers around the gladiators, a gladiator helmet could be an idea. Being that it's named the scales of balance, a scale could be incorporated in some capacity. But then I don't know what to do with books 2&3 to maintain that aesthetic.
Another angle I'm open toward is something more atmospheric like Django Wexler's Burning Blade and Silvereye trilogy, or the new releases of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy.
A third option is Aparna Verma's Phoenix King which uses silhouettes in a simpler way.
Thematically, the book is meant to offer hope through the darkness. I would like the cover to, in some way, show the would-be-reader that this story is not grimdark, and despite how bad things get, good things will come.")
